Worship Leaders

Ethnos currently has two worship leaders that serve on a rotating basis.

Anthony Glathar

Anthony

My name is Anthony Glathar and I have been a part of Ethnos since 2005. I live in North Portland with my wife, Sarah. She and I have been leading worship together at Ethnos since we got married. I work as a manufacturing engineer for a company that makes dental equipment.

In college I began leading worship for one of the campus fellowships at OSU. As the years progressed I discovered a passion for exploring multicultural worship and worshipping in different styles. This has been a revolutionary process for this white boy from small town Oregon who would really have rather sang Chris Tomlin or Matt Redman music. As I learned more about how :many different ways there are to proclaim God's glory, I discovered a love for gospel music and latino worship as well. I believe that God desires for us to experience Him in new and deeper ways in worship. I love being stretched to experience the exuberant celebration in the gospel tradition, and proclaim the that, "GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME AND ALL THE TIME, GOD IS GOOD."

While our worship experience at Ethnos may look different than my time in college, I believe that we are moving in a direction to try new things and celebrate the goodness of God together.

Scripture is pretty clear that music is just one form or outlet of worship. In the Old Testament, music was mainly used to express a joy and praise for something while the term "worship" is mainly expressed in a "bowing down" posture before that which we worship - a representation of submission. This is why we are commanded solely to keep worship for Yahweh, our Lord. And this is why it is important to keep in mind that worship is not just about singing, but a submitting of our lives in obedience to our God, our intimate Creator. If our "bowing down" only happens when we sing...there is a problem.

I'm not one for the church gathering entertainment mentality. There is always someone better and we are all replaceable. That God doesn't smite me every time I'm up there "leading" confirms to me his grace in my life, which helps me show grace to others. We are all in this together. Some of us lead "worship" in different ways... God has granted me the necessary means to be available in this place, at this time as a tool to conduct us to sing in response to what we know and experience about Him musically - in spirit and truth.
