Ethnos Thrives In Community
In recognition that Christ calls us out of individualism and toward a life focused on the well-being of others, Ethnos holds "community" as a core value. This means we understand the Church is not a provider of religious goods and services where individual needs are serviced by a staff of trained professionals, but rather the Church is a group of Jesus followers where needs are met in the context of community life.
Each person in Ethnos shares in the responsibility to make this community what it needs to be, both for you and for those who you would like to see journey with Ethnos. That is why we've called ourselves Ethnos (Greek: a kingdom of priests; a holy nation). We hope that one of the great marks of Ethnos will be a turning over of ministry to the people. This is YOUR church...It will be what YOU make of it. It will succeed largely because of the relationships that you build and the amount of yourself you invest!
When we talk about Ethnos being a community, what we mean is that we are all in agreement to work together in unity to live out the mission God has given us. Ethnos is a community in which you can immerse yourself in an exploration of faith, while you encounter Jesus, are cared for, taught, and encouraged. If you agree with Ethnos' values, and you want to join the pursuit of these values, the next step is to 'bind' yourself to the community and be accountable to it. You are joining in the goal of living out the values of the community. With this 'joining', the community is built up as we share our lives, our stories, our experiences, and our gifts. With this sharing, we are strengthened in the work Jesus calls us to. In this we present an inviting image to others who would join us in this work.
Will You Join in Community and Help it Thrive?
What you can do: Join, facilitate, host, lead, or even start a group. How about inviting others you might not know so well among the Ethnos community over for dinner or out for coffee? Consider how you can serve the community by helping or teaching in a children's class on Sunday or help set up or tear down for Sunday gatherings. Diligently pursue joining into whatever Ethnos people are doing, especially if it involves a "service project". Simply, ask yourself: "What am I doing to live out a desire to be in community?"
