Philli,

if I remember correctly, a husband and wife are not supposed to be alone with kiddos (and/or, in this situation, with anyone we are serving), two men are not supposed to be alone with any kiddos, and any one person is not to be.

so...yeah. I think that's what we were getting at. unless Arlene or Jeri would prefer a woman. which would be a shame, since we have many kind, gentle, serving men in our community!

Zac- keep us posted! thanks for all that you do!

I finally got a hold of Jeri today. She no longer desires help from us, so we're waiting for Arlene to get back to us or another connection from Love, Inc. to run with.

In the area of risk management, it's important to consider the safety of our people as well as the people whom we are serving. This will normally means operating in pairs, taking proper safety precautions and ensuring that the people who are being served feel like we aren't endangering them. There are quite a few scams out there under the guise of helping the elderly which result in the elderly being robbed shortly after they let the people into their home. Even though that's not us, from their viewpoint a deal like this might fit that profile, so we just have to ensure that they are confident that we are who we say we are and we operate with a measure of safety and security for both them and ourselves. Although I did it last week with Jeri, the standard MO should be to not be at a persons house alone and be prepared to watch each others backs, just in case we end out being the ones that get scammed. I don't think that's very likely while we're getting recommendations from Love, Inc, but it's still a possibility.

All that to say: we just wanna use common sense.

I'm looking foreword to meeting the next person we'll have the opportunity to serve.

Hey everybody! We got a new contact. Would anybody be willing to take up this one (I'll be there too, for sure!)

Hi Zac,

Hope you had a great weekend of rest and worship

The next name I am sending you is for a woman who needs some help with assembling an exercise bike. She is a woman who has severe vision impairment. I told her I would see if we could find a volunteer for this task. I will give you her contact information and let you decide if this is something you would like to take on. Let me know-thanks so much Zac.

I should tell you that Jen can have a somewhat abrasive demeanor, I think life’s messiness has taken a toll on her. Just FYI.

I'll be contacting her shortly, but with her "demeanor" I would prefer to have somebody who can handle that sort of thing without taking it personally. You guys know how that goes.

Thanks everybody!

Much love.

It all depends on the date for me, so let me know once it gets scheduled!

Probably don't need a huge team just to assemble a bike... but if scheduling works, I can help.

So, we've got a go this saturday for late morning/early afternoon! Can anybody else make it? It's not too late to reschedule if not. It shouldn't take too many people, we probably don't need a crowd to put together an exercise bike, but I'm stoked that we have the oppertunity to serve! :hello1:

:-D

I can be there. Where? What time? What tools, if any, are needed?

I feel like 2 or 3 is more than enough. I am available if needed. Zac, choose your Elect and make it so.

Okay, we're set up Saturday at 1pm. So, we can probably meet at 12:15-12:30ish at the church to gather, pray and migrate to her place. She doesn't have any tools and has no idea what would be required, so I'll probably pack a wrench set and a few screwdrivers. Anybody else who wants to come, I'd encourage you to grab something, just in case I didn't think of it.

So whoever wants to help, that's the plan.

See you saturday.

hey friends! We have two new hits for possible help. I'm really excited!

Number 1:

I am contacting you hoping you might have someone who would like to tackle a housecleaning (pick up/dishes/chatting) with a disabled 67 year old woman, Babara. Her son called today a bit overwhelmed with caring for his mom. I told him we could not provide ongoing housecleaning but would reach out to our church community to see if there would be someone who would like to do a visit and see what they could do for her. Zac has been a wonderful benefit to so many, I think this might fit for a woman or Zac and a woman. The son, Brad just requested a “honest” person, so I just lay it before you and trust God will guide the way.
____

I have since contacted her, her son is in town right now helping her out, but I did give her the church name and my phone number, she will be contacting me next week to set something up. This is more of an FYI and maybe keep your schedules in mind for when she does contact me.

Number 2:

A lady by the name of Faith who needs some help moving from her home into an apartment in Beaverton on the 31st of this month. She will have things boxed up and ready for whoever can help. She has a queen bed/bookshelves (3) table and chairs/(2) wicker chairs/end tables/TV/microwave, so one or two pickups and a few hands should be enough. I called her and left a message, currently waiting to hear back. Anybody who can help, please keep that date clear and I'll plan on it unless I hear otherwise. I get out of class at noon (it's a Wednesday), but if that doesn't work for her, I might ask some other people to start and I'll do what I can when i get there.

Both of these are great opportunity to serve in our local predicament and get the Ethnos word out into the community. I'm looking foreword to both the community involvement and the team-building within the body that results from these opportunities.

Sweet opportunities! We are out of town the 31st, but can definitely donate the use of our truck. The Ketahs have a key.

I just now got off the phone with Faith, we set up a time to help her move. Wednesday the 31st at 9:30 in the morning. We'll plan to meet at the church at 9, I'll bring my pickup, whoever else can help please let me know and we'll team up then!

See as many as can make it then!

In Christ,

We'll be gone then, so maybe this is me putting my nose where it doesn't belong, but won't many of your laborers be at work during that time?

Regardless, feel free to use the truck!

yeah, I know that might be a problem. She had picked out the day she wanted to move long before we were enlisted to help, so we're kinda working around her schedule. The Lord will provide the laborers.
